Triwindu Antique Market Yogyakarta

I was interested to look for a 'pasar barang antik' or Antique Market while we were at Yogyakarta. In this market, you can find all things that was antique or used before, such as statues, ceramic houseware, painting, even the old door knob. This market is neatly arranged. Every seller can display their own merchandise, in their own little shop. Every merchandise were sold on its own, therefore you may find them looks old and covered with dust.

Hotel 1001 Malam Yogyakarta

I found this hotel through agoda.com. I was interested looking at the pictures. Then when I went to Yogyakarta, I made a booking through them.

To my fascination, when I arrived at this hotel, I wasn't expecting to see the same picture as I saw at the internet. I was quite surprised, that this hotel is really good. It was located in the alley, not far from Tugu Station or Malioboro Street. The staff are friendly and its like staying at your own home. They served breakfast too, the choice are among fried rice (like what I had that day), pancake and sandwiches.

Half day trip to Solo

While in Yogyakarta, we plan to visit Solo for a half day. We used Prambanan Ekspress train from Tugu Station. It takes almost an hour from Yogyakarta to Solo.

We visited the famous Roti Orion store....

Solo has its own trans busway but I forgot to take a picture of its bus, just the bus stop

Trip to Yogyakarta - Museum

While in Yogyakarta, we visited museum too. They were not just any museum, they are Museum Pintar (Smart Museum) and Children Museum.

At Museum Pintar, we can see anything from history, science, technologies, art, telecommunication stuff, etc.

The Children museum we visited was named Museum Anak Kolong Tangga (Children Museum under the stairs), because it was occupied an empty area under the stairs of a Cultural building. The museum collects children toys from around the world.

Trip to Yogyakarta - Kraton & Taman Sari

Next trip was to visit Kraton Yogyakarta and Taman Sari.

Taman Sari is a Sultanate swimming pool back to hundred years ago). It was used by the Sultan himself and his family, including his concubine and their children.

There are 3 separate pool, one was used by his wife and children, the other was used by his concubine. The pool used by the Sultan himself was built separated from other pool. It had a sleeping chamber with stoves underneath. The stove was used for burning fragrances, when the scent came out, they pulled out the stoves.

Taman Sari itself actually was built in a large area and was connected with the Sultanate Palace through a large lake and surrounded with fruit and vegetable garden. But unfortunately, right now the lake was turned into a village.

Underneath the lake was built a mosque. Inside the mosque, female pilgrims used below floor and male pilgrims used upstairs floor. Nowadays, this mosque used as a photography place by a prospective bride.

Do you know that the water level was marked below this window?

Next was Kraton Yogyakarta

Trip to Yogyakarta - Kota Gede

Our first stop was Kota Gede, a silver smith town nearby. We traveled to Kota Gede by becak. We met a very nice and old becak's man (tukang becak) and he didn't impose an expensive cost.

(This is Mr. Sumarno, our becak's man)

We visited a big shop and they showed us how to make crafty art from silver. No wonder all stuff made from silver are sold with an expensive price. You have to have precision, accuracy and ability to make a beautiful craft.

There are a beautiful restaurant nearby the silver smith shop. But we didn't go in there, because it looks expensive, besides it's still early to have lunch.

After visiting silver smith, we traveled to a chocolate factory, Chocolate Monggo. It was built by a Belgian Man. We saw its factory and its packaging area also. The chocolate taste good.

Trip to Yogyakarta - @ the airport

My sister & I planned a trip to Yogyakarta, with a short visit to Solo.

We didn't make plan to go to Borobudur or Parang Tritis or else, we just wanted to go to a closer place, closer to town...

We arrived early @ Yogya airport, and quite surprised to see its airport. The airport was equipped with a modern transportation traveled to downtown or to other city nearby Yogya. We could use train or trans Yogya or Damri bus to go everywhere outside the airport. The government of Yogyakarta built a tunnel which connect the airport and other public transport service.
